The Biblical Case Against Donald Trump

If you’re going to vote for Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils that’s between you and the Lord.  BUT DO NOT defend him as a Christian or Biblical choice.  There is no biblical choice in this election.  By defending him on Christian grounds you do more harm to Christ’s name and Christianity than any good you are doing for the country.  If you Christianize that which is clearly un-Christian the world sees nothing but hypocrisy.  I want to make it clear.  Hillary Clinton advocates evil things in contradiction to the Bible and is an absolute threat to Christian values.  I would not encourage a soul to vote for Hillary under any circumstance… period.

The Bible and Trump

I have had an issue with Donald Trump from the beginning and it’s long before the comments we have now heard him say about women and his alleged abuses.  Those comments and much worse to come are exactly what I expected based on what the Bible says.  I’ve had this issue with Donald Trump long before much of this came to light because of what the Bible says about character.  To be honest, I’ve considered voting for him and had boiled it down to a choice of “who will kill the least amount of babies.”  However, as I dig further into scripture I have a problem.

What has disturbed me from the beginning is this section of scripture:

1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.  –2 Timothy 3:1–9

The scripture here is saying that in the end times the moral character of people will be so apocalyptically bad that their character will look like this.  This section of scripture lines up with Donald Trump 80-90%…  What does this scripture say to do with such people… See the red text above… “Avoid such people.”

Why did Falwell, Dobson, Jeffress and others endorse such a man in the Primaries, over other godly candidates?  The bottom line is pragmatism, not faith.  These men are making choices not based on moral character but based on whatever works.  It’s the same reason other Christians compromise their values and settle for what works whether that be in their relationships or business.  I have heard Dobson try to argue that Trump got saved a year ago, to which I respond “You shall know them by their fruits.” They all argued we aren’t electing a “Pastor in Chief” and God has used godless men in the past.  They’re right… I just think that this time God is using these two candidates to carry out his wrath on a country that has rebelled against him.

We have been worried about the impact Hillary Clinton will have on our country, but did we stop for a second to think about the impact Donald J. Trump will have on conservatism or Christianity?  Over the past few months, I have watched Christians justify, rationalize, and worst of all “Christianize” Donald J. Trumps behaviors and words.  Even though 2 Timothy 3, many other parts of the Bible, the Constitution, and basic human rights have stood in glaring contradiction to his statements.  Are we selling our principles and our soul for a few justices?  To which even conservative Presidents have appointed Judges that later leaned liberal see John Roberts and Obamacare…

Donald Trump has made statements and reversed them in less than 24 hours (seen it myself on Torture, here’s a list first thing I got on google).  He used to be a pro-abortion democrat.  He is a shameless liar (see any news interview after he says something).  He has consistently taken one position only to say the exact opposite the next day (see Torture comments).  So what makes you think he will even do half of what he says???  He has lied more blatantly and obviously than many politicians who never do what they promised.  We’re gonna take him at his word?????

The only difference in the amount of scandal he and Hillary has are time and opportunity… Their character is very similar.  He even shares the same narcissism, abuse of power, and thin skin of Barrack Obama. He just happens to be “our guy.” So we will look past all that… Really???

So let’s not Christianize this man.  This election is based on the promise of “conservative supreme court justices” from a former democrat and habitual liar.  This is currently the best pragmatic option we have.  That’s the TRUTH…  Honestly, I don’t think any of it is going to matter because wrath is on the menu either way.

Wrath is on the Menu

I joked with somebody that when I saw 17 Republican candidates in the primaries I thought to myself “maybe God won’t destroy this country.”  But in walked Donald J. Trump and I was like “never mind, wrath’s on the menu, choose your destroyer…”  I’m not an end times prophecy junkie.  I often tell people not to get too caught up some of the crazy books that come out.  But let’s face it…  this one is kinda obvious.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that I was reading the book of Jeremiah during the primaries.  Judah’s capital was Jerusalem where the temple was and the heart of Worship for God’s people.  They thought like some of us today that “we are a Israelite (insert Christian) Nation” even though their actions had been utterly wicked in all the idolatry and worldliness they were engaging in. It sounds like America.  Not in their wildest dreams did they think God would let their “godly” nation fall into the hands of other wicked men.  But God stepped in and warned Judah that they were going to be punished for all of their wicked sin and their punishment would be that God would let the evil godless king of Babylon conquer them.  God said that if they wanted to live that they would have to accept their punishment and not resist the king of Babylon (Jeremiah 21:3-9).  Later as they realized they were about to lose their country, safety, and security they tried to escape punishment.  Instead of listening to God, they thought they would turn to another wicked worldly kingdom: Egypt.  God warned them that if they tried to get out of his punishment by using worldly pragmatic solutions like sinful Egypt that what they thought would save them would actually destroy them. (Jeremiah 42:11-17)

Am I saying that Trump is Babylon?  No, I would put Hillary as Babylon in my best estimation.  But Trump may just be Egypt: a worldly solution to escape God’s punishment and a mess we have made.  Will Hillary possibly mess America up for the next 40 years… yeah.  But God’s people had to spend 70 years in captivity in Babylon before they learned their lesson and God then restored them.  In China they have mandatory abortions and greatly restrict Christianity and yet… God’s people are flourishing like wild fire in China…

Trust the Lord and not in worldly solutions like Trump or Egypt.  We need to quit trusting in our politics and trust in our Lord.  If we focused half as much energy on living out and sharing the Gospel as we did our elections, then this country would not be in the situation we are in.  Whatever you do: pray, read God’s Word, and vote as God leads you to vote.  I leave you with the following words from Isaiah:

“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the LORD,
“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
2  who set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
3  Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. –Isaiah 30:1–3

1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help
and rely on horses,
who trust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!
2  And yet he is wise and brings disaster;
he does not call back his words,
but will arise against the house of the evildoers
and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.
3  The Egyptians are man, and not God,
and their horses are flesh, and not spirit.
When the LORD stretches out his hand,
the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall,
and they will all perish together. – Isaiah 31:1–3.

UPDATE: There are two sides of the Evangelical debate over Trump. I fall on one side but respect all of you in your prayerful decisions. If you want to see a counter point that completely disagrees with me I encourage you to read this article.  I encourage you to compare the two.  But please don’t vote for Hillary. God bless.

  1. I choose to believe that Donald Trump may be God’s vessel to work in the favor of the Church. God has used many other people of whom we would consider to have had bad character. Clinton is definitely the wrong choice since she is the advocate and designer of an un-Godly agenda.

    1. It’s hard reading the Bible for applications to an election because there wasn’t a democracy back then. This however is the best I could come up with when I search the scriptures. Can u think of any scriptures telling us to choose the lesser of two evils? Or anything in the other direction? I personally would love it if someone could provide a scriptural counter point. Let me know if u find any articles with that. God bless and thanks for commenting.

  2. Your article is legalist tripe and you sir are a self-righteous moron in love with the sound of your own voice. Below is a recent FB post of mine. It might help you. When America’s greatest modern president was nominated, many Christian legalists came out from under the rocks they were hiding under to denounce the death of civility in the United States of America. This man was accused of being a “hollywood womanizer” and a “sinner” and “not a conservative” and “someone who has no respect for marriage.” These self-righteous prudes relished pointing the long bony finger of condemnation at the nominee while twisting up their dead and shriveled up faces in a permanent grimace.
They ranted long and hard against the man every Sunday and railed against him in conservative media creating a frenzy of self-righteous hatred and contempt.
That’s right, the man was Ronald Reagan. America’s greatest modern president.
What happened to the “civility police?”
They are still out there but now they are going to war with Donald Trump.
Pray for Donald Trump that he can resist the forces of self-righteous contempt that are stalking him night and day.
BTW, if you are in one of churches controlled by these legalists that can’t seem to dirty themselves by enthusiastically endorsing Donald J. Trump for savior of Western Civilization, maybe, just maybe it’s time for you to find another church. But please don’t go quietly.
This is America’s last chance to save our freedom and save Christianity from the forces of evil.

    1. As far as I can, I try to let every choice my life makes be informed by scripture. This is the best I have come up with. If you can find another scriptural example encouraging me to pick the lesser of two evils then by all means please share it. If ur operating off of fear and not faith ur not in a good spot. If u are making this decision based on a conviction u have from God that this is pleasing to Him then that’s fine. God’s ur judge, not me or anyone else. All the best to ya. Peace.

      1. At the request of a Christian friend who is voting for Trump, I have read your blog post again. My opinion of it and of you remains the same. Sad. Lucky for me, I can remember voting for the most cowardly and ineffective President in the history of our great country, Jimmy Carter. As I recall, Jimmy had all the boxes checked correctly. He was a born again believer. He came from a churched family. He knew and quoted scripture regularly. He taught Sunday School for decades at his little Baptist Church in Georgia. He was married to his childhood sweetheart and he knew all the right words to lure new believers in to vote for him. When America needed him the most Carter was AWOL ( this means absent without leave for those of you who have not served and I seriously doubt that you have) hiding under his desk in the white house. The problem is that legalists like yourself love to check boxes and parade your effeminate holiness before the living God. But The Living God seems to prefer murderers, coarse and violent MEN to “Churchy” folks when he needs work to be done. He has always hated those standing in the front of the church beating their breasts and declaring their own righteousness. God prefers those on their knees at the back of the church declaring “God have mercy on me a sinner.” You admonish us to “please don’t vote for Hillary….” Yet this is exactly who you are voting for. Oh, don’t worry, you won’t hear from me again. I won’t embarrass you in front of you only other e-mail viewer. Here is my last FB post that I will post here. Hope it helps you but since legalism is usually fatal I doubt it will.

Oh and a quick quote for you from Luther ( I think ) “….when faced with a choice between legalism and license, always choose license for license, if indulged in long enough, can lead to repentance but legalism always leads to self importance and alienation from God….”

Audios. Here is the FB post.

This rant of mine is in response to a good friend’s tepid and reluctant endorsement of Donald J. Trump for President. My friend is a sincere Christian who is only voting for Trump because of the abortion issue but really sees no other reason for Christians to endorse Trump. This troubles me but I am grateful that he is doing the right thing.
I, of course, stand with Jerry Falwell Jr and the vast majority of evangelical Christian voters in enthusiastically backing Donald J. Trump for president. Since I don’t have many liberal pretend Christian friends out there I don’t need to apologize for the logical and Godly Christian Choice.
The evil Muslim in the White house has banned Franklin Graham and every other evangelical from the White House while booking over 200 meetings with the Muslim Brotherhood. My question for you is: do you know how late the hour is? If your only theology is “it’s nice to be nice and good to be good,” and if you are biblically illiterate I guess you could vote for Hillary. David Jeremiah is currently preaching on the theme, “as it was in the days of Noah….”
All you really have to do is to look at WW2 to understand that strength and courage are Godly virtues that God loves and uses. Many lisping pretend Christian pastors lobbied for General Patton’s removal from command.
Because he used coarse language. If they had their way, we would not have a free and Christian country and every Jew would be dead.
Oh well, can’t have that coarse language now can we???
So silly. The next generation of these same liberal Christian Pastors were appalled at how President Ronald Reagan stood up to the evil empire and were fond of talking about how God loved communism. See a pattern here yet? They called Reagan a sinner and a Hollywood womanizer and said that hadn’t attended church regularly and did not come from a churched family. They said a lot of other things but the thing they really harped on was that he was divorced. The American people can smell self-righteous hypocrites and elected Reagan in a landslide. God used this man to defeat communism. How’s that for irony???
The real Christians in this country are behind Trump and will show up in force if Hitlery steals this election. We will make America Great Again, Strong Again, Rich Again and Godly again. Questions?

    2. Hi Eric,
Sometimes discussions, and most times disagreements, can benefit both sides of an audience with a definition of terms first. As an example, and perhaps something you probably agree with me on, consider the political arena and the term “conservative”, thrown around casually by many sides all claiming that term, while being wildly different in what they believe and want or think is best for the nation. Genuine conservatism had a refreshing resurgence with the recent rise of the tea-party movement, however once it became such a popular term to embrace, it also began to be co-opted by many different sides, all claiming to be conservative, because it sounded good, while many using the term are in fact more of what would be under the proper definition of “progressive” or even further left of that. No one ever actually “defines” what conservatism is or why their stance meets that definition, but many still claim to be one, and many more then vote for them, only to discover later that neither side is on the same page as the other.

So Eric, in the interest of effective communication and discussion, would you please define what “legalism” is and then explain how Jared’s view and statements are “legalistic tripe”? My challenge to you is not a disagreement (or agreement) with you, because, in fact, its kind of hard to even begin without first explaining those terms and rationalizing the connection between them, don’t you think?
