Why I’m not Worried About This Election

not worried about this election

As people go to the polls today, I’m not worried about this election.  Because I know my candidate will always be in power.  His name is Jesus Christ and He is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.  In the end, He appoints the rulers for blessing or rulers for judging a nation.  If He judges a nation it’s usually to get God’s people to repent and be restored which may be what the church needs.

I’m a conservative and I believe that Hillary Clinton will be bad for our country but I know we aren’t the first of the last nation to face the issues we are facing today.  King David addressed these similar fears in the Psalms. Look with me at Psalm 11.

1 In the LORD I take refuge;
how can you say to my soul,
“Flee like a bird to your mountain,
2  for behold, the wicked bend the bow;
they have fitted their arrow to the string
to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart;
3  if the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do?” –Psalm 11:1-3

David here explains that the LORD is his refuge and asks “Why are you worried about the wicked?”  He quotes the other person basically saying “Run for the hills the wicked are coming to destroy us!  The very foundations of our society have been destroyed!  What can the people of God do?!”  Does that not sound familiar to today’s situation?  We are worried that evil has so taken our country that if we lose this election all is lost.  But the key to curing that fear is not in trusting in the constitutional foundations of this country or in our roots as a “Christian” nation.  The answer is not Trump, Hillary, or anyone else.  The key is in trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ who reigns on His throne forever and is still in control.

4  The LORD is in his holy temple;
the LORD’s throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.
5  The LORD tests the righteous,
but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.
6  Let him rain coals on the wicked;
fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
7  For the LORD is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face. –Psalm 11:4-7

David reminds the reader of this truth.  God reigns in heaven and He sees all that man does.  He tests the righteous to live by faith and He will judge the wicked.  In the end, those who walk in His ways will be blessed and in His presence.  So for this election I know: MY GOD IS IN CONTROL!

The persecuted church knows this all too well.  That’s why in the middle of their persecution legally, physically, and in every way; they are still thriving and preaching the Gospel more boldly than the majority of Americans.  If we are to see this country turn to God, may we abandon our easy Christianity and be bold for the Gospel.  Only when God restores the hearts of men will this country see righteous leaders yet again.  Be bold knowing this:

18 And Jesus came and said to them, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”Matthew 28:18-20

The Biblical Case Against Donald Trump

If you’re going to vote for Donald Trump as the lesser of two evils that’s between you and the Lord.  BUT DO NOT defend him as a Christian or Biblical choice.  There is no biblical choice in this election.  By defending him on Christian grounds you do more harm to Christ’s name and Christianity than any good you are doing for the country.  If you Christianize that which is clearly un-Christian the world sees nothing but hypocrisy.  I want to make it clear.  Hillary Clinton advocates evil things in contradiction to the Bible and is an absolute threat to Christian values.  I would not encourage a soul to vote for Hillary under any circumstance… period.

The Bible and Trump

I have had an issue with Donald Trump from the beginning and it’s long before the comments we have now heard him say about women and his alleged abuses.  Those comments and much worse to come are exactly what I expected based on what the Bible says.  I’ve had this issue with Donald Trump long before much of this came to light because of what the Bible says about character.  To be honest, I’ve considered voting for him and had boiled it down to a choice of “who will kill the least amount of babies.”  However, as I dig further into scripture I have a problem.

What has disturbed me from the beginning is this section of scripture:

1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, men corrupted in mind and disqualified regarding the faith. 9 But they will not get very far, for their folly will be plain to all, as was that of those two men.  –2 Timothy 3:1–9

The scripture here is saying that in the end times the moral character of people will be so apocalyptically bad that their character will look like this.  This section of scripture lines up with Donald Trump 80-90%…  What does this scripture say to do with such people… See the red text above… “Avoid such people.”

Why did Falwell, Dobson, Jeffress and others endorse such a man in the Primaries, over other godly candidates?  The bottom line is pragmatism, not faith.  These men are making choices not based on moral character but based on whatever works.  It’s the same reason other Christians compromise their values and settle for what works whether that be in their relationships or business.  I have heard Dobson try to argue that Trump got saved a year ago, to which I respond “You shall know them by their fruits.” They all argued we aren’t electing a “Pastor in Chief” and God has used godless men in the past.  They’re right… I just think that this time God is using these two candidates to carry out his wrath on a country that has rebelled against him.

We have been worried about the impact Hillary Clinton will have on our country, but did we stop for a second to think about the impact Donald J. Trump will have on conservatism or Christianity?  Over the past few months, I have watched Christians justify, rationalize, and worst of all “Christianize” Donald J. Trumps behaviors and words.  Even though 2 Timothy 3, many other parts of the Bible, the Constitution, and basic human rights have stood in glaring contradiction to his statements.  Are we selling our principles and our soul for a few justices?  To which even conservative Presidents have appointed Judges that later leaned liberal see John Roberts and Obamacare…

Donald Trump has made statements and reversed them in less than 24 hours (seen it myself on Torture, here’s a list first thing I got on google).  He used to be a pro-abortion democrat.  He is a shameless liar (see any news interview after he says something).  He has consistently taken one position only to say the exact opposite the next day (see Torture comments).  So what makes you think he will even do half of what he says???  He has lied more blatantly and obviously than many politicians who never do what they promised.  We’re gonna take him at his word?????

The only difference in the amount of scandal he and Hillary has are time and opportunity… Their character is very similar.  He even shares the same narcissism, abuse of power, and thin skin of Barrack Obama. He just happens to be “our guy.” So we will look past all that… Really???

So let’s not Christianize this man.  This election is based on the promise of “conservative supreme court justices” from a former democrat and habitual liar.  This is currently the best pragmatic option we have.  That’s the TRUTH…  Honestly, I don’t think any of it is going to matter because wrath is on the menu either way.

Wrath is on the Menu

I joked with somebody that when I saw 17 Republican candidates in the primaries I thought to myself “maybe God won’t destroy this country.”  But in walked Donald J. Trump and I was like “never mind, wrath’s on the menu, choose your destroyer…”  I’m not an end times prophecy junkie.  I often tell people not to get too caught up some of the crazy books that come out.  But let’s face it…  this one is kinda obvious.

I don’t think it is a coincidence that I was reading the book of Jeremiah during the primaries.  Judah’s capital was Jerusalem where the temple was and the heart of Worship for God’s people.  They thought like some of us today that “we are a Israelite (insert Christian) Nation” even though their actions had been utterly wicked in all the idolatry and worldliness they were engaging in. It sounds like America.  Not in their wildest dreams did they think God would let their “godly” nation fall into the hands of other wicked men.  But God stepped in and warned Judah that they were going to be punished for all of their wicked sin and their punishment would be that God would let the evil godless king of Babylon conquer them.  God said that if they wanted to live that they would have to accept their punishment and not resist the king of Babylon (Jeremiah 21:3-9).  Later as they realized they were about to lose their country, safety, and security they tried to escape punishment.  Instead of listening to God, they thought they would turn to another wicked worldly kingdom: Egypt.  God warned them that if they tried to get out of his punishment by using worldly pragmatic solutions like sinful Egypt that what they thought would save them would actually destroy them. (Jeremiah 42:11-17)

Am I saying that Trump is Babylon?  No, I would put Hillary as Babylon in my best estimation.  But Trump may just be Egypt: a worldly solution to escape God’s punishment and a mess we have made.  Will Hillary possibly mess America up for the next 40 years… yeah.  But God’s people had to spend 70 years in captivity in Babylon before they learned their lesson and God then restored them.  In China they have mandatory abortions and greatly restrict Christianity and yet… God’s people are flourishing like wild fire in China…

Trust the Lord and not in worldly solutions like Trump or Egypt.  We need to quit trusting in our politics and trust in our Lord.  If we focused half as much energy on living out and sharing the Gospel as we did our elections, then this country would not be in the situation we are in.  Whatever you do: pray, read God’s Word, and vote as God leads you to vote.  I leave you with the following words from Isaiah:

“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the LORD,
“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
2  who set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
3  Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame,
and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. –Isaiah 30:1–3

1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help
and rely on horses,
who trust in chariots because they are many
and in horsemen because they are very strong,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the LORD!
2  And yet he is wise and brings disaster;
he does not call back his words,
but will arise against the house of the evildoers
and against the helpers of those who work iniquity.
3  The Egyptians are man, and not God,
and their horses are flesh, and not spirit.
When the LORD stretches out his hand,
the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall,
and they will all perish together. – Isaiah 31:1–3.

UPDATE: There are two sides of the Evangelical debate over Trump. I fall on one side but respect all of you in your prayerful decisions. If you want to see a counter point that completely disagrees with me I encourage you to read this article.  I encourage you to compare the two.  But please don’t vote for Hillary. God bless.
